Here are some great choices to look at during your weekend off.

The Grand Tour presents: Carnage à Trois

While not officially a movie, The Grand Tour presents: Carnage à Trois is a standalone special that was not included in the original list of December releases. A nice surprise for The Grand Tour Fans.

Filmed during confinement, Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond will begin their adventure in Wales, cross England to the English Channel, then to France. They will make us discover the strange world of French automobile culture and discover French arthouse cinema.

It will definitely be another great lockdown special!

Theory of Everything

The biographical romantic drama of 2014, Theory of Everything is now available on Amazon Prime. This film examines the life of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking and is an adaptation of the memoir Traveling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen by Jane Hawking.

Hawking is played by Eddie Redmayne, with Felicity Jones as Jane. This story chronicles Jane’s relationship with Hawkings from their early years at Cambridge University to her diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and her success in the field of physics.

The film was praised for music, cinematography, and performances by Jones and Redmayne.

Joy for Christmas

Joy for Christmas is an original holiday movie from Amazon which will be released on December 19. This one is brand new for the 2021 holiday season.

The two main characters are Holly, an entrepreneur who runs the family business, and Jack, a public figure and professional athlete who needs to find some Christmas cheer. This holiday season, Holly tries to recreate her family vacation traditions as Jack rediscovers the magic of Christmas. Together, can they save his family’s annual charity?

Soul surfer

Soul surfer is a biographical drama based on Soul Surfer: A true story of faith, family and struggles to return to the set by Bethany Hamilton.

Hamilton recounts her life as a surfer who suffered a horrific shark attack where she lost her left arm. The story tells of the attack and her life afterwards as she is determined to recover from the accident and return to her life as a surfer. It’s an uplifting and inspiring story worth watching.

Directed by Sean McNamara and starring Anna Sophia Robb, Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid and Lorraine Nicholson with Carrie Underwood, Kevin Sorbo, Sonya Balmores, Branscombe Richmond and Craig T. Nelson.

Mr. Popper’s penguins

New to Amazon this month is Comedy Mr. Popper’s penguins which is loosely based on the 1938 children’s book of the same name.

Thomas Popper Jr. (Jim Carrey) is a successful Manhattan real estate entrepreneur who learns his often absent adventurer father has passed away and left him with unusual memories of his travels in Antarctica. A gentoo penguin named Captain arrives at his door. He tries to return the penguin, but a mistake causes him to deliver five more.

Through his children and a few penguins, Popper will reassess his life and become the father of his children whom he never had.
