Cheshire vet closes private practice to join local national channel office

CHESHIRE – A local private veterinary practice was acquired by a national chain where the owner of the private practice began his career over ten years ago.

Dr Kristine Metz, owner of Animal Medical Care on Cornwall Avenue, told owners of animals she cares for she will be joining the VCA Animal Hospital Cheshire site next month. Metz will begin seeing pets as a member of VCA Cheshire on June 14, she told her customers in an email.

“To continue to meet our current demand and maintain our level of customer satisfaction, we have decided to move the AMC team and operations to VCA Cheshire Animal Hospital, which has been a member of our community for many years,” Metz wrote in the email to clients. which was shared with Hearst Connecticut Media. She was not immediately available to comment on the decision to end her private practice.

Metz started its veterinary practice Animal Medical Care 15 years ago. Prior to that, she started her career working for 15 years at Cheshire Veterinary Hospital, which was later acquired and became VCA Cheshire.

“It will be like coming home,” Metz said of his VCA Cheshire membership. “I look forward to continuing to provide quality care to your pets in a state-of-the-art facility. “

VCA is one of the largest animal hospital chains in North America with more than 1,000 offices, including 20 in Connecticut.

Joseph Campbell, a spokesperson for VCA, said company officials are “thrilled with the opportunity to welcome the animal health care team and their patients to the VCA family where we share the commitment. of Dr. Metz to provide excellent care for pets “.

“All employees of the Animal Medical Care team have been invited to join VCA as part of this planned transition,” said Campbell.

The reaction to news from customers whose animals are treated by Metz has been mixed.

Andres Arteaga used both veterinary practices for his dog and cat, and said via social media that while he was disappointed with the news about Animal Medical Care, “I understand the business reasoning.

“Animal Medical Care has been ‘affected’ more than VCA …” said Arteaga.

Ron Briggs told the Register that he has taken his family’s dogs and cats to Metz for about 15 years and that “she is by far the best vet we have ever had.

“I think this will only expand his ability to provide the best care available,” Briggs said when asked if Metz has joined VCA Cheshire.

Other Metz clients have said they would be looking for a new veterinary practice to care for their pets now that she will close hers.

“I don’t think I will follow them at VCA,” said Eileen O’Connell Turner.

Theresa Burak said: “I am currently looking for a new vet.”
