England BEAT Germany to book quarter-final match against Ukraine

England boss Gareth Southgate has revealed he is a “party animal” in the dressing room following the heroic victory over Germany.

He said: “I thought it was a brilliant afternoon. We talked about bringing fun to the nation and this afternoon was what it was about.

“The players were absolutely huge, throughout the team, and the fans too. There were only 40,000 but the atmosphere was as good as I can remember at Wembley.

“But I was the party animal in the locker room – I just said it doesn’t mean anything if we don’t capitalize on Saturday now. We gave people another day to remember, and now we have to do it in Rome. “

Meanwhile, England have received a boost for Euro 2020 with the news that Ukrainian star Artem Besedin has been excluded from his quarter-final clash.

Besedin fell victim to a horror challenge from Marcus Danielson which saw the Swedish defender receive a direct red card.

Besedin has returned home for treatment and is absent from the rest of the tournament if Ukraine beat England.

The center forward has come off the bench for Ukraine in three of his four matches at Euro 2020.

In other news, Alan Shearer hailed Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka as England’s best player.

The Newcastle legend said: “England need more players like this.

“He’s been so brave, when someone marks him narrowly, he always wants the ball. I think he was our best player.

And finally, German midfielder Toni Kroos is set to retire from international football after Germany exits Euro 2020.

Bild reports that he is expected to announce his retirement soon, despite the World Cup in Qatar just a year away.
