The expectant mother of three gave birth alone on the kitchen floor “surrounded by French firefighters” because neither health professional nor her husband did so in time.
Old Blue Peter presenter, Helen, shared the story of her unusual and unexpected birth on the ITV breakfast show earlier this week.
Lorraine Kelly asked, “Yes, because your son Louis – he was born unexpectedly when you were in France on the kitchen floor for God’s sake.”
Helen explained, “I know, God bless him. I can’t tell if he was somehow proud or embarrassed. He says: ‘I was born in the kitchen?’ and I’m like ‘Yeah’ and a lot of my friends think it’s so beautiful, a home birth.
“No one wants a load of gorgeous French firefighters at their feet while they deliver a baby, that’s what I had…
“They had never done this before and were so excited, I just said, ‘Go back in my head please’.” She joked.
Helen also spoke about the difficulties she faced with her current pregnancy, as she admitted to finding things much more difficult the third time around.
“It definitely gets harder as you get older,” she explained.
“Or maybe it’s only the first couple of times you do this thing where you’re like, ‘I’m independent, I don’t need a chair, I don’t need special treatment….
“Whereas now I’m a little older, I have the kids and I’m working. Now I’m like, ‘Oh, does anybody have a chair for me, does somebody have- there a chocolate for me? ‘ I really rinse it off, you know, it’s my last so I have to make the most of it.
The 38-year-old revealed her due date was New Years Eve, she added: “The other two were early and my husband keeps saying we can’t have Christmas because he missed the last one. I said it’s good, you’re making dinner, so I’m going to sit there with my feet in the air! “
