Marie-Anne Metz | The Batavian

Mary Anne Metz, courageously fought a long illness and passed away peacefully from this land on September 27, 2021.

Mary Anne was born in Batavia, to previously deceased John and Gladys (Chaya) Balbick. She is survived by husband Ronald, son Matthew (Theresa), son Richard (Emily), daughter Stephanie (Chris Miller), grandchildren Eleanor, Garrett and Levi. Mary Anne is the sister of Robert (Jane) Balbick, Elizabeth (Derek) Genesky and Nancy (Ed Schichtel) Balbick.

Mary Anne is a graduate of Rosary Hill College and the University of Buffalo. She has held teaching and librarian positions at a number of schools, retiring from Attica High School as a Library Media Specialist. Mary Anne loved golf, biking, sporting events and most of all spending time with her family. His many hobbies included photography, knitting and sewing, cooking, gardening, and reading.

Friends are invited to call Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main St., Batavia, NY 14020. Christian burial mass at 9:30 am sera will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at Resurrection Parish, 303 E Main St, Batavia, NY 14020. It will rest in Saint Joseph’s Mausoleum, Batavia.

Please note that masks will be mandatory at the Funeral Home and at the church regardless of vaccination status. Thank you!
