The Spice Girl, who was in Los Angeles, where she took part in Dancing with the Stars, was due to embark on her already rescheduled solo race early next year, with stops in Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Zurich, Munich and Berlin, before leaving for the UK for other dates.
However, the European stage has been suspended, due to the “current situation of Covid”.
In a statement posted on social media, the Who I Am singer said: “Due to the current situation of Covid in Europe, it is with great regret that I have to announce the cancellation of the European dates for my next tour.
“I am devastated to let down so many of you.
“My UK dates will always be taking place, so I hope I see a lot of your beautiful faces there!
“Your ticket agents will be able to give you a full refund.
‘Lots of love, Melanie xxx.’
The singer’s announcement follows the discovery of the new Omicron variant of Covid, which was first spotted in southern Africa.
The rapidly spreading mutant strain has so far been found on every continent except South America – and there are expected to be many more cases in the coming days.
Cases have already been confirmed in France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria and Italy, as well as the United Kingdom.
Melanie’s next concert is scheduled for February 12, 2022 in Glasgow, and the tour will continue until February 20.
Meanwhile, Sporty Spice recently revealed that they believe the Spice Girls might find Victoria Beckham in Glastonbury.
Posh Spice did not join the Wannabe hitmakers on their reunion tour in 2019 and Melanie revealed that the only thing that might prompt the fashion designer to join the group on stage again would be if they got a seat at the world famous festival.
“I know Mrs Beckham would love to do Glastonbury,” the Never Be The Same Again frontman said as the Spices celebrated Wannabe’s 25th birthday in July.
Speaking on the Lorraine show, she added, “There’s been a lot of talk about it, but we’re constantly talking about getting back on stage because the shows in 2019 were amazing. We’d love to do it again, once. as the world will allow.
It was recently announced that Diana Ross will be taking the coveted Legends spot at the festival next year, which the Spice Girls had previously been tapped for.
Billie Eilish is also slated to headline the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm next June.
