MIDLAND – Midland will benefit from non-stop flight service between the big city and Austin starting in spring 2022.
According to James Beauchamp, president of the MOTRAN Alliance, direct air service from Midland-Odessa to Austin will be back from March 2022.
The announcement is part of a restructuring effort where Southwest Airlines will add 20 new flights per day to the Austin Bergstrom International Airport. New flights will offer a total of 46 non-stop destinations for Southwest Austin.
âWe are thrilled,â said Beauchamp. MOTRAN provided briefings to airlines on the changing demographics of the region and, working with Nadine Craddick and Lorraine Perryman, hosted a luncheon for Southwest executives and Vice President Dave Harvey to tour the region and speak to businesses in the area of ââtheir air service needs. Dr Ray Perryman presented a business model over lunch showing the expected growth for the region and its impact on the proposed Midland-Odessa flight to Austin.
“Austin is truly becoming a HUB for the Southwest and being connected to this HUB will provide more destinations for Permian Basin travelers.” said Beauchamp.
Some of the new non-stop flights to Austin added include:
Amarillo (AMA), Charleston (CHS), Columbus (CMH), Midland (MAF) and Ontario (ONT), Puerto Vallarta (PVR), Panama City (ECP), Sarasota / Bradenton (SRQ) and Destin / Fort Walton Beach ( VPS).
