Armin John Herbin, 97, formerly of Jamestown, KS passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Stormont Vail Health Center, Topeka, KS. He was born on July 20, 1924 in Jamestown, KS to Leon Alcide & Bertha Josepha (Schulte) Herbin.
He attended Jamestown Public Schools and graduated from high school in 1942. He attended Creighton University until he entered the Army Air Corps in 1943 and served his country until in 1946. After his release from the Army, he returned to Jamestown and joined his father Leon at the State Bank of Jamestown. In 1948 he married Edith Marie Nordhus at St. Gregory Catholic Church in Marysville, KS.
He worked with his father at Jamestown State Bank and ran the John Herbin, Inc. real estate and insurance agency in Jamestown. He was an alumnus of the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. He has served as chairman of Randall National Bank, Randall, KS and of Jamestown State Bank, Jamestown, KS. He supervised the construction of the new Jamestown State Bank building in 1975. He retired in 1989.
He was an active member of the Jamestown community and a long time resident. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, a life member of the American Legion and VFW, the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia, and a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Jamestown. . He has served on the board of directors for Cloud County Community College, Jamestown City Council, and the $ 333 School Board. He was an avid car collector.
He is survived by his wife, Edith, Topeka; son, John F. Herbin, Jamestown; daughters, Jean (Fred) Meis, Minden, NE; Mary (John) Horan, Chicago, Illinois; Ann (Mike) Powell, Topeka & Margi (Duane) Puckett, Lincoln, NE; 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Joan Byrnes.
Due to covid, there will be a private Christian burial family mass at Notre-Dame du PerpÃ©tuel Secours Catholic Church with Fr. David Metz officiating on Friday, December 10, 2021. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. , Jamestown. Services will be recorded and uploaded to the funeral home’s website for viewing after services. Friends can sign the register from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Chaput-Buoy funeral home.
