Baker, who joined DWC in 2019, has been appointed or served as lead agent in more than 150 receivership engagements from banks, private equity, debt funds, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Department of Justice. Many projects combine the firm’s expertise as a receiver with DWC’s nationally recognized institutional real estate development and advisory platform.

Previously, Baker was a receiver for 10 years at Mosier & Company, Inc. of Costa Mesa, a court-appointed trust and crisis management firm.

“Ryan is a rising star in receivership with the perfect combination of professional credibility, experience and education,” said Douglas Wilson, CEO and Chairman of the Board of DWC. “During his three years with us, he has demonstrated an extraordinary talent for managing complex litigation, operating various businesses, overseeing forensic accounting and dealing with government regulators. As we strategically develop the next generation of leaders at DWC, Ryan is a key member of the team.

Baker’s most significant assignment as federal receiver of actions involved an alleged billion-dollar Ponzi scheme exposed in federal court by the SEC. His team traced $1 billion in investments from nine investors over a 10-year period in 46 investment vehicles and returned $336 million to the victims.

Recently, he completed an assignment involving a portfolio of 18 parcels, including apartments, retail, office and hotel assets in Southern California. The complex assignment resulted in a return of $134 million to creditors.

Ryan holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from New York University and an MBA from the University of Southern California. He is a director of the California Receivers Forum and a member of the National Association of Federal Equity Receivers and the California Bankruptcy Forum.
