William Nicholson’s Story reveals in instant scenes this true story’s tale about one of the greatest writers and minds of his century, CS Lewis
Love Street Playhouse reopens with Shadowlands by William Nicholson from October 29 to November 7 at the Columbia Theater for the Performing Arts, 1231 Vandercook Way, Longview. Single tickets cost $ 22 and are on sale now at www.lovestreetplayhouse.com.
“I’ve run into a bit of experience lately. The experience can be a brutal teacher, but you learn fast, ”as CS Lewis quoted during production. How poetically and timely is this expressed in the context of the past 18 months?
“There are so many good takeaways from this story that he decides to present Shadowlands like our first foray into the world, perfectly timed and disturbing for this period of our lives, ”said Melinda Pallotta, owner of Love Street Playhouse.
This story by William Nicholson, reveals in snapshot scenes this true story’s retelling of one of the greatest writers and minds of his century, CS Lewis (played by Lou Pallotta), and his fall in love later in life with writer and poet, Joy Davidman (played by Melinda Pallotta).
Lewis is best known for his children’s books on the Adventures of Narnia and as one of the greatest Christian apologists of his time. Joy Davidman, whose life has seen many twists and turns, “born a Jew, becoming a communist before converting to Christianity” makes the journey, their meeting and their love one of the most fascinating love stories of our time .
History is promised to open your heart to the challenges of growing up in worlds apart. Lewis and Davidman both come from atheism to Christianity and come together through words on a page. Enlightened and filled with hope, this is considered a powerful story to see and experience. The compelling words and story offer support to all who have suffered loss during these most difficult few months.
“Everything we do at Love Street Playhouse involves people, in close contact; from actors to staff and finally to our customers who come to our intimate space to feel connected, ”explains Lou Pallotta. “Without being able to connect, we are lost. Choosing to move our production to the Columbia Theater allows everyone the flexibility to choose their seats with the ability to safely walk away – a luxury we don’t normally have in our intimate venue. We are grateful now for the opportunity to share this story with others at the beautiful Columbia Theater. “
